MyMaps by Google is an excellent tool to create maps with various options.

I would like to share an example make by students collaboratively to work on their geography assessment on rivers: This is a copy of this group assessment.

As you can see, students used lines, dual lines (to show the river from the source to the mouth, tributaries and confluences), points with various icons and showed river features (watershed, meanders). They added images and videos to talk about the culture and river management. They had to cite their sources (check the icon for bibliography) to display digital citizenship/literacy (academic honesty in IB terms).
